20 Days

20 Days.

That's how long it took my brother's wife to go from being defiantly anti-Covid vax, to ICU, to pleading with others to get vaccinated, to her death. 20 days. For all 20 of those days, she was alone in hospital. No one was allowed to see her and no cards, flowers, etc. were allowed in her room. For the last seven days, she was unable to communicate. The last time she heard her husband's voice, and he hers, was the morning of September 18th.

She leaves behind a grieving and broken husband, an aging and broken father, an adopted daughter, two young grandkids, an extended family and friends. Needlessly.

In just 20 days.

Where the Sound Takes You

I’m a Gibson Acoustic guy, tried and true. I’ve never played a Takamine I really liked, and I could take or leave Martin guitars. And, I’ve avoided slotted headstocks except on my two nylon string guitars. And yet, somehow my two favorite guitars right now are a 12-fret, slotted headstock Takamine and a 12-fret, slotted headstock Martin. Two amazing music makers. Go where the sound takes you. You’ll never regret it.

this storm is you

James Curtis Smith ~ This Storm is YouNortheast Ohio has been a flood zone for the past 10 days or so. Friends have had to deal with property damages, loss of food due to power outages, gigs have been cancelled, and it's been generally tough going. One positive thing did come from this spate of storms. On July 8th, I snapped a few images of the next batch of storm clouds as they started rolling in. This one struck me as a perfect image for the cover art for my upcoming release. I’m pretty sure this is what the sky looked like in the opening scene of the Half-Blood Prince, right before the Death Eaters show up...
